Full Day Rock Climbing Adventure
enhance your mind, body, and community connection while climbing the rock faces of Devil’s Lake State Park
What to Expect:
Time: 7 hour excursions from 8:00am-4:00pm. A group lunch will be had near 12:00pm. Some variation in time may occur; specifics will be provided upon sign-up.
Where: Devil’s Lake State Park. Participants are responsible for their own transportation, and may need to purchase a vehicle admission pass to park within the State Park. Specifics, including parking lot locations, will be included in event sign ups.
Who: A maximum of 8 and minimum of 6 participants, with 2 facilitators. All involved will be women/femme+ individuals 18 years or older.
What: Rock climbing experiences will be guided by a local guide service to allow for Soul To Summit facilitators to focus on the mental, emotional, and wellbeing aspects of the day. The guide service will set up ropes, provide gear, and belay participants. Participants will hike to climbing locations, climb various routes, and participate in group practices throughout the day. Practices may include learning how to notice and name emotions that may arise while climbing, such as fear, anxiety, and excitement, as well as skills to manage and move through those emotions. Participants may also learn how to complete body scans, breathing exercises, and grounding with our senses, all while connecting with themselves and the rock. Focus will be on learning to trust our bodies and minds while in stressful and/or new situations, communicating those experiences to others, and supporting each other through challenges. Emphasis on positive self-talk, leaning into confidence, and embodying resilience will be present throughout the day. Participants will engage in Challenge by Choice — everyone gets to choose how hard to push themselves and which challenges to partake in. No prior hiking, climbing, or wellness experience required, though participants should be physically prepared for an intermediate level of physical exertion. Plenty of breaks will be available.
Gear: The rock climbing guide service will provide all necessary climbing gear. You may bring your own if you would like, but it will be inspected by their guides prior to use to ensure safety. The guide service will send out an email to all participants the week of the event with further details.
Items to bring:
Participants must provide their own lunch, snacks, water, and journal, and a backpack comfortable and large enough to carry them for the duration of your session. Closed toe shoes are required. More information will be sent out upon sign up.
